EQUITY & ACCESS TO LITERACY: Getting more books to children.
A collaboration between TMC RAR Committee and the SLO Food Bank.

9.12.21: We've collected and donated 4,000 books to children in the SLO community! We received donations from the SLO County Libraries (mostly Spanish books), Whiz Kids, Liz Krieger, and teachers who were moving to new jobs and needed to par down their books. Most of the books were practically brand new and we received books in all age groups (1-18 years).

We were featured on KSBY and there was an article in the New Times. We are planning to continue this program each summer (May through July) to keep adding books to the SLO Food Bank Breakfast bags. Thank you to Pamella Wood who wanted to do more to help kids read during the pandemic and made that first call to Tara Davis at the SLO Food Bank, which started the whole program. Thank you to Shannon Pimentel, Raising A Reader coordinator for SLO, who guided us in our efforts. And we had our wonderful volunteers sorting and counting books: Pamella Wood, Valerie Kates, Kay Miller, Mary Weeks, Nancy Hurd, Jenny Bosserman, and Marion Leggett.

More and more books are getting into the homes of children who receive the SLO Food Bank's Breakfast Bags this summer!

Thank you for supporting our efforts!

All-natural Swedish Dishcloths

Eco-friendly, multipurpose and pretty seasonal designs!

Monday Club’s Raising A Reader Committee is selling Swedish dishcloths as a fundraiser with a Spring theme. Each set contains 3 dishcloths, in the assortment shown. Price includes tax and shipping! Send as a gift to friends and family and of course to yourself. What an inexpensive & fun way to support an excellent reading program!
