RAISING A READER NEWS

EQUITY & ACCESS TO LITERACY: Getting more books to children.
A collaboration between TMC RAR Committee and the SLO Food Bank.

5/1/2021: The Raising a Reader (RAR) committee of The Monday Club is excited to launch a new program to further our mission of promoting childhood literacy and providing access to books for children. This new outreach will help provide books to even more children in our community, through the SLO FOODBANK "Breakfast Bags" program. So clean out your bookshelves and attic, or go shopping, tell your family and friends and let’s collect books!

Our first collection day will be May 10, from 4 – 6 pm. After that, donation drop dates are 2nd and 4th Mondays of May, June and July from 4-6pm.

Donations may be dropped off to a large red wagon at the side entrance of the Clubhouse, ensuring social distancing and COVID compliance.

Guidelines:

  • gently used books (no written on, torn, stained or missing pages)
  • appropriate for children ages 0-18.
  • no religious books
  • books that appeal to a diverse group of people would want to read to their children
  • board books for infants and toddlers
  • paperback books for readers of all ages
  • books may be in Spanish and other languages
  • new books are also welcome
We hope you all will join us in donating to this exciting new community-wide project.
