THE MONDAY CLUB BACKGROUND AND MEMBER INFORMATION

Background

• We are a group dedicated to carrying on the original mission of The Monday Club, established in 1924.
• That mission is to “Enhance the educational, civic, social and cultural quality of the San Luis Obispo Community.”
• We offer “The Monday Club Conservancy (TMCC) Fine Arts Awards Competition” to high school juniors and seniors, recognizing excellence in music and art; support the Community Foundation’s Raising a Reader Program, promoting reading in preschool children; and collect bi-monthly donations for Lumina Alliance.
• We are also charged with the care of the historic Monday Club building, designed by notable architect, Julia Morgan. To this end, we raise money for TMCC through our Preservation Fund.
• It is our goal to work together cooperatively to help our community and to preserve and restore the clubhouse, while developing life-long friendships and coming together as a group to accomplish exceptional things!

Member Expectations

• It is important that our members share a strong sense of our Club’s mission and are prepared to volunteer their time and energy to assist in these efforts. All members are strongly encouraged to take a leadership role and help “carry the load” whenever possible.
• We are determined to work together as a cohesive group, showing respect, kindness and support towards one another as we carry out our mission, while recognizing that each of us is entitled to our own opinion but the consensus of the membership will prevail.

Members are required to:

• Serve on at least one Luncheon Committee per year.
• Volunteer for at least one of our annual fundraising event committees each year.
• Purchase a minimum of ONE ticket to one of our major fundraising events each year. 
• Complete an annual Membership Survey each February/March.
• Pay annual membership dues in March each year to retain membership status.

Members are strongly encouraged to:

• Attend as many of our monthly meetings as possible (September-May)
• Attend all TMCC events each year.
