December 2017 - Holiday Greetings and Happy New Year!

Dear Members,

As 2017 comes to a close, I feel it is a good time to look back on the year and reflect on our many achievements, but it is equally as important to turn our view forward and plan for those things we still want to accomplish.

We can all be proud of the successful fundraisers held this Fall that benefited both the Conservancy and The Monday Club. The Holiday Boutique on December 4 was festive and cheery, with many charming hand-crafted gifts and vintage finds. Truly our best Holiday Boutique ever!

I am very pleased and excited to announce that The Monday Clubhouse Conservancy is the proud recipient of a $65,000.00 grant from the Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust. The funds will be used for our upcoming and much needed building restoration efforts.

Interestingly, The Monday Club is connected to the Miossi family though Harold’s mother, Vera who was member. The family has a long history in our area as Harold’s four grandparents emigrated from Switzerland and settled in San Luis Obispo County as dairy farmers in the latter part of the 19th century. After graduating from Berkeley in 1943, Harold returned to the family ranch and assisted in its operation, and was California Probate Referee for 35 years retiring in 1995. Harold was actively involved in the community throughout his life. He was president of the Cuesta College Foundation, served on the boards of many local Environmental and Conservation organizations as well as on the Grand Jury. A firm believer that individuals shape the world in which they live, Harold was motivated to have a positive effect on the environment of his community. The Charitable Trust in his name continues his work today.

In the coming year, we look forward to continuing our fundraising efforts to aid in the preservation of our historic clubhouse and to support the Raising a Reader and Fine Arts Awards programs.

Speaking of achievements and the future, DO NOT MISS the “Member in the News” section of the Newsletter where this month you will learn about a member whose volunteer efforts have left an indelible mark on several of our local schools including Bellevue-Santa Fe Elementary, Bishop’s Peak Elementary, Mission Preparatory and Laguna Middle School. Her ongoing commitment and volunteerism on behalf of San Luis Obispo High School and our very fortunate Monday Club and Clubhouse Conservancy makes these entities richer. I personally could not imagine a Monday Club without the energy and enthusiasm of this very special individual.

Wishing you very Happy Holidays,

Jennifer Alderman
