August 2014 - What We Did On Our Summer Vacation

It’s good to be getting back together after nearly 4 months apart! During that time, the Board of Directors has been busy. Here’s what’s been happening since we were last together.

In May, we celebrated our new members with an Orientation Tea.

In June, Mary Kubacki and Sherri Bone of Patterson Realty took over management of our property. Since they work only with authorized bonded and insured vendors, we parted ways with David Bartholomew as an employee. He was encouraged to submit an application to become an authorized vendor. All exterior doors were rekeyed. We have secured the weekly services of Moran Landscaping. A Cal Poly second year Landscape Architecture class submitted around 40 new designs for landscape renovations. They are in the process of providing us with the digital drawings so that we can share them with all of you. These students were so excited to become involved with The Monday Club, our history, and the legacy of Julia Morgan.

Late June found us on a weekend Board Retreat where we spent time with a Facilitator Beth Wonson, honing our team skills and finding that we work very well together.

In July, Nancy Hite made the difficult decision to depart from the position as Chair of Ways & Means. Nancy’s only daughter, Ashley, will be married in December and Nancy’s top priority is to provide full attention to those wedding details. Debbie Collins-Johnson graciously agreed to resume that position again this year.

We now have WiFi capability, securing that service with voicemail through Norcast Telecom Networks. This has enabled us to rent our facility for 10 consecutive days in October to a development company. We will also be able to utilize our own phone number our events and ticket sales.

There have been continuous meetings for the Tri-Awards committee. More news on their progress will follow in the weeks to come. The Book Club, now called The Coffee, Conversation & Confection Klatsch, has been meeting during the summer.

Organization meetings for the Autumn Tea in the Garden (in October), SLO Little Theatre Dress Rehearsal Benefit (in November), Sip, Sample & Swing (in January) and the Architectural Tour (in April) have proceeded during this summer, too. We have made great progress! Tickets for the first two events will be available for sale at the September Membership meeting.

The Monday Club is supporting SLO Tiger Athletics by advertising in their football programs and placing a 3’ x 5’ banner on the field around the track, which remains in place all year long. We will have a booth, representing our wonderful wedding venue, at the Madonna Expo Bridal Fair in October. Raising a Reader will be raising funds with ticket sales from the SLO Little Theatre Event. We have all managed to spend some quality family time during these summer months, too.

I hope that you have all had a great time and look forward to our time together, in friendship, in the months ahead. Brace yourselves….pumpkin flavored everything is coming!
