JUDGES

Dave Becker

Dave Becker has been on faculty at Cuesta College since 2001. He teaches Recording Arts, Rock, World and Jazz Appreciation as well as Applied Music. Dave has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from the University of Florida. He is an active professional musician on the Central Coast fronting music ensembles of various jazz genres. In addition to his past and current college teaching experience at Cuesta College, Allan Hancock College, Cal Poly, and the University of Pikeville, KY, Dave has also been a clinician at the Gordon Goodwin Big Phat Band Camp and other camps and schools throughout Florida and along the West Coast. Lately, Dave has enjoyed producing virtual concerts for local schools and community choirs.

Bob Bennett

Bob Bennett is a former member of the Woody Herman and Brian Setzer Orchestra and former lead trumpet for the Artie Shaw Orchestra. Mr. Bennett is a graduate of Morro Bay High School, Cuesta College and has a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from California State University Long Beach. In addition to playing professionally for 30 years in the Los Angeles area, Bob is a former member of the Mount San Jacinto Community College faculty. Bob has also won Jazz Soloist awards from the Fullerton Jazz Festival and The International Trumpet Guild. He recently returned to the Central Coast and is currently teaching trumpet at Cuesta College and directing the Cuesta College Jazz Orchestra.

Idona Cabrinha

Idona Cabrinha, Lecturer of Piano, Music Appreciation: World Music, and Music Fundamentals: Cuesta College; Piano Instructor and Vocal Coach: private studio; Artist in Residence Children’s Creative Project: choir director and music teacher to local elementary and secondary schools, extensive experience and active pianist, accompanist, vocalist in the central coast area and Chicago; B.A., California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo; M.M. Piano Performance and Pedagogy Northwestern University. former Performance Syllabus Chair for North Shore Music Teacher’s Association; former Assistant and Acting Director DePaul Community Music Division, former faculty member: DePaul University School of Music.
